At the moment, organisations are trying to adjust, strategise and create a workplace to engage Millennials and Generation Z. It’s no secret that behind every great organisation is an even greater team of people. As Sir Richard Branson often says “A company is its people”.
This is why employees have always been the priority within any organisation, no matter what the size. Engaged employees are a company’s number one competitive advantage as they have higher profitability, customer loyalty and lower attrition.
The millennial generation were born between 1980 and 1995 and have very different working styles then the generations before them. According to Forbes (2015), the generation after Millennials, Generation Z, which they defined as people born from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s, made up 25% of the U.S. population, making them a larger cohort than the Baby Boomers or Millennials.
The challenge is how do we demystify these generations and understand how to engage them?
At Talivest, we partner with organisations to help engage and retain employees. We often hear of the challenges organisations have with Millennials, so we felt it was important to facilitate a conversation around this! We brought together both Work Behaviour Experts, Training and Business Leaders to facilitate this important conversation on Redesigning the Workplace for Millennials and Generation Z.
Our event, “How to Drive Engagement with Generation Z and Millennials”, sold out quickly – which really validates the demand for information around such critical business topics. From the event, it was apparent that these three things stood out in importance for engaging with Millennials;
- Company culture trumps salary & perks. Organisations must allow for flexibility within the workplace.
- The onboarding process needs to start before employees join and should be focused on what matters to these generations (mission & values, career and personal development).
- The importance of having Boomerang Employees (rehires) as part of an organisations Recruitment Strategy.
